Safely Testing Sending SMS Messages
When testing sending SMS messages via emails, URLs, or the REST API (which Zapier uses) to see that it works without actually sending a text message to anyone, there are several things you can do as presented below.
Once you are done testing, make sure to go through the list of your test messages in your Internet account (shown in your Dashboard) and delete all of those messages by clicking the icon in the Functions column. Then if you changed a setting, revert it to normal so your application works as expected again.
1. Not Installing The Application
If you have not yet installed the SMS From Me application, then you can send any number of messages safely since they are not going to be transmitted.
You could uninstall the application, but we strongly suggest that you do not do that. If you already installed our application, use one of the other solutions.
2. Change Frequency
One of the options of the processing frequency is Never. Using that option means that no text messages will be processed until you change the frequency back to another value.
3. Sending Text Messages to 555-1212 and following
The SMS From Me application on your phone will handle messages sent to a number ending in 555-1212 as a successful messages. It will not actually attempt to send the SMS message to anyone, but it is very similar to send a message to a real person.
The SMS From Me application also understands the 555-1213 phone number and automatically generate an error when that number is used. Again, this number does not send any actual SMS message. It just automatically fails and tells the server that the sending process failed. After 5 attempts the message will be marked as a failure.
Also phone numbers that end with 555-1214 are all blocked. This means sending a message to a phone number such as +(916) 555-1214 will automatically result in a blocked message.
This option is probably one of the best way to test your installation (i.e. sending an email to your Zap and see that the messages appears in your Internet account dashboard and after 5 min. seeing it status go to Sent or Error...)
4. Turning Off Your Phone
The application won't be running if your phone is turned off. By turned off, we mean completely turned off. A complete shutdown. Just turning off the screen will not prevent our application service from working by waking up once every few minutes.
5. Sending Text Messages to Yourself
Another solution is for your to send text messages to your own phone or your husband or wife (with their consent...) It is funny to know that you can send text messages to yourself. You can even reply to yourself. It just works!
6. Change Secret Key
If your Secret Key is incorrect, your phone application will not be able to connect to our server. So by editing your SMS From Me secret key to an invalid key (say by adding a "1" at the end) you in effect prevent the texting part from happening.
7. Change Application Key
If your Application Key is incorrect, your phone application will not be able to connect to our server. So by editing your SMS From Me application key to an invalid key (say by adding a "1" at the end) you in effect prevent the texting part from happening.
8. Change Server URL
One option in your application settings is the URL to access our server. The default address is. If you change that address by adding a path, for example: your phone application will not be able to connect to our server. In effect, it will prevent the texting from happening.
If you already registered with your email address and needed to re-validate (i.e. the first validation somehow failed) then go to the Validate Page where you can request for a new validation code to be emailed to you.
